Oak Creek Homes presents exciting news, new products and innovative design.
HOUSTON, TEXAS (April 4, 2002) – The Christmas wish of a bright young teenager comes true today when her grandmother moves into a new home donated by Oak Creek Modular Homes. Oak Creek Modular Homes, based in the Houston area, donated the home in response to a letter that 17-year-old LaQuinta Calhoun wrote to Santa as part of a high school English class assignment. She never expected her wish for a new home for her grandmother to come true. LaQuinta’s grandmother, Odell Calhoun, was raising LaQuinta and her three brothers in a home in Houston’s Fifth Ward that was almost uninhabitable due to broken plumbing, rotting wood and a roof that was caving in around them. Oak Creek Modular Homes learned of the family’s plight and went to work immediately to secure a new home for the family. The foundation for the home is being designed and provided by Arete Real Estate and Development Company and gives a glimpse at the future of Houston housing. Arete and Oak Creek Modular homes are working together to provide special products and financing for the Houston affordable housing market. Current plans include development of a minimum of 225 new homes next year. Other members of the Houston business community also rallied to donate the driveway, air conditioning, and landscaping for the Calhoun’s new home. The home, valued at $75,000 has three bedrooms, two baths and a total of 1202 square feet. Oak Creek Modular Homes are built off-site in production facilities with state-of-the-art technology that ensures precision in every element that goes into each home. The controlled production environment means that building materials are never exposed to the elements during construction like those of site-built houses. Modular homes are built on a permanent foundation, comply with all the state and local building codes and are an affordable alternative to site-built houses. Modular homes appreciate in value similar to other homes and, modular home appraisals are determined like any other home. "LaQuinta is a remarkable young woman with a bright future ahead of her. Despite all the economic adversity in her life, LaQuinta has prevailed. Much of her drive for success can be credited to the love of her grandmother. If we could do this one thing to make the quality of life better for the Calhouns, we knew we could provide a comfortable new home," said Richards.
